To Gin or not? Silly question! For so many of us, a lazy afternoon sipping gin and tonics in the sun are the way we spend our summer days with friends. If you prefer gin over wine, then you can’t miss the annual Gin Festival in October. Here are 6 things you need to know before you book your Uber:
Score some tickets
The proud organisers of the event were kind enough to reserve a couple of tickets for our readers. You know the drill, with a couple of clicks you can score a set of double tickets. We have 2x double tickets to give away. The Competition is now closed and the winners were: N Zakwe and J Fourie.
The October Gin Festival is hosted by the South African Gin Society, however, it’s not the only event they stage during the year. Their monthly events include Gin tastings, Gin and food pairings, Gin cocktail making classes and local Gin Distillery Tours. If you don’t know what to plan for your special birthday or year-end function, they even arrange gin tastings for these special occasions. If you’re also a gin lover, be informed and don’t miss out, remember to subscribe to their newsletter.
Over 20 exhibitors
With over 20 exhibitors you can keep going till you find The One. Your ticket includes a complimentary glass and 3 tastings per token, make them count, it’s an opportunity to experience something different.
Where and When
The event will be held on the 27 October at Plot 19 Driefontein Road, in Muldersdrift, Roodepoort. We’ve included a map just in case. You have to know when the party is over, doors open at 11am and close at 8pm.
Kids under 18 may enter free of charge if accompanied by an adult.
Picnic blankets are welcome, however, no food to be brought into the venue.
Not for sale to persons under the age of 18.
Tickets are available online at R180 per ticket. It’s an outdoor event so bring a hat and sunscreen.
Distill your own and get advice
So many flavours, so little time. If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at distilling your own flavour, why don’t you give the Love-Gin Kit a try? They are available online for only R499 and refill kits sell for R250. As one of the reviewers aptly commented on YuppieChef, “you’ll need 1L of un-flavoured Vodka to turn it into your very own home-crafted infusion”. Who knows, you might even be able to get some expert advice from one of the Gin Festival Exhibitors in how to improve your craft.
Don’t go alone, send a calendar invite to your friends before you forget. See you there.
